This is a dicey one. Many factors go into straightening a rim, but they mainly have to do with either spoke tension, a bent/dented rim or missing spokes. Assuming your frame is not bent, these are the main factors which will be addressed. If it turns out the rim is completely potato-chip shaped, truing is still possible, however the chance that this rim will snap in the future is much more possible and I will let the user assess their own risk. Anything else causing the dishing or bowing of your rim should not be an issue and the severity will determine the cost.
